We are all very busy people. Right? Well, I know that I am, and I suspect that you are, too. So, you may ask: ”Why do I need to bother preparing my own juice if I can buy the same juice in a bottle?”
Well, the answer is simple: IT IS NOT THE SAME JUICE.
The TRUTH is that ANY bottled, canned and even frozen juice must be PASTEURIZED. Pasteurization heats the product to a high temperature in order to prevent spoilage by killing bacteria, viruses, molds and yeast.
However, this heating has a largely negative effect. Along with bad bacteria, pasteurization kills live enzymes and antioxidants.
So, this is the dilemma: individuals with digestive diseases, especially colitis, Crohn’s, and IBS, have difficulty digesting and absorbing nutrients from solid foods. Juicing is a good solution: it removes hard to digest fiber, and allows the digestive system to easily absorb all the nutrients, enzymes, vitamins and minerals so necessary for colon healing and overall health. Eight ounces of freshly squeezed juice packs in the vitamin content of one pound of raw vegetables. Yet, pasteurization kills most of the nutrients in juices.
So, the answer is really simple: We MUST drink fresh squeezed juice to achieve maximum benefit. Drinking pasteurized/canned juice is cheating your body of vital nutrients.
To maximize the intake of live enzymes and vitamins, consume the juice no later than 5 minutes after the squeeze. When you squeeze and drink immediately, you are consuming very powerful substance that is both extremely healing and easy to digest – almost a perfect food for people with digestive disorders like you and me.
