Watch this funny, educational video that explains the benefits of citrus pith.
When I was little girl, my grandmother was scolding me for eating the white flesh on the inside the orange peel, the pith. Back then she did not know that the white stuff inside of citrus (oranges, grapefruit and lemons) is really good for you. Neither did I. The highest amount of vitamin C, flavonoids and antioxidants are found in the citrus pith.
Studies have confirmed that Vitamin C is the main antioxidant in the body which prevents free radical damage and DNA mutation. Free radical damage and DNA mutation leads to cancer. Eating fresh organic citrus with the “white pith” will flood your body with nourishing bioflavonoids and vitamin C, strengthen your immunity while helping prevent stomach and colon cancers.
Galina’s Tip:
While I do not recommend eating the outside of the peel (rind), I do recommend eating the white stuff inside the peel (pith) as well as the fruit itself. Just make sure your citrus is organic, and not sprayed with pesticides. Skip the bottled orange juice because it’s pasteurized. Pasteurization kills germs as well as enzymes and large amount of vitamins in the juice. Also, it has no fiber or white pith. So, eat the real fruit, your body will thank you for it.
Please note: if you have intestinal inflammation, bloating or diarrhea, avoid eating fruits altogether.
