Best Health Books on… Fasting

June 22, 2008

Why would anyone want to stop eating? Food can heal, right?  Actually, calorie restriction and periodic fasting have been used as a cure-all for centuries.  When fasting, fat people become skinny, sick people become well, and sluggish people become energetic.

At first, I was very skeptical about fasting because I was afraid of being weak and hungry. However, after my first day of fasting, I felt great and my energy level was high. Juice fasting is a must for anyone who desires to improve their health.

Here are two fundamental books on fasting:

1) Best book on Why We Should Fast:

“Fasting Can Save Your Life”, Dr. Herbert M. Sheldon
This book saved my life back in 1987 when I was very sick with debilitating ulcerative colitis. I drank fresh vegetable juices and herbal teas for 20 days. After 3 weeks of fasting my bleeding and diarrhea stopped. Since then, I’ve regularly used juice fasting as part of my gut healing protocol.

2) Best Book on How to Fast:

“How to Keep Slim, Healthy, and Young with Juice Fasting”, Paavo Airola
This book guides you step-by-step in:

  • preparation for juice fast
  • what to do daily during juice fast, and
  • how to break the fast.

Please be aware that this book does not describe possible risks associated with juice fasting in relation to different medical conditions. For safe weight loss, I would not recommend starting with juice fasting.  Overweight and obese individuals should learn about a healthy eating lifestyle and how to incorporate simple exercise routines for safe, gradual weight loss.
