GALINA’s EXPERT OPINION:
Gas and Bloating: Activated charcoal can be used to relieve excess gas and bloating. It’s especially useful in patients with IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) or anyone who suffers from indigestion or bloating. Take 1-2 capsules (each capsule should be at least 500mg) 30 minutes before meals with 10 oz of water to bind gas-producing elements in foods. According to a study in American Journal of Gastroenterology, activated charcoal was effective in reducing bloating, gas and abdominal cramps after meals.(1)
Digestive Cleanse and Detox: Charcoal works exceptionally well in cleansing digestive tract by removing the toxins (pesticides, fungicides sprayed on food), heavy metals and chemicals (in water, foods and personal care products). Take 3-4 capsules (each capsule should be at least 500mg) 60 minutes X 3 times a day before meals with a 10 oz of water. Drink at least 3 liters of water a day with fresh lemon juice to ensure that toxins and chemicals are flushed and purged from the body. Please note that charcoal can turn your stool black and can cause loose stools in some individuals. Don’t drink charcoal for longer than 2 weeks. It can cause dehydration and can interfere with your body’s absorption of nutrients. Do not combine activate charcoal with a laxative. This combination may cause serious side effects such as dehydration, electrolyte imbalances, and low blood pressure. (2)
